Alia Bhatt reveals her journey as ‘Sehmat’ in Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Raazi’ – The much awaited trailer of Dharma Productions’ Raazi, directed by Meghna Gulzar, is out. The film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel, Calling Sehmat, and stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in pivotal roles. While the audience was already intrigued by the first look posters, Alia’s gripping act in the trailer has managed to impress us further.
Alia Bhatt‘s character in Raazi is a young, naive girl who decides to risk her life for her country. When Alia was asked about her preparation for the role, she revealed that “it was the most beautiful aspect as she did not have to enact anything”. She further said that a lot of technical preparation went into playing Sehmat. Since she plays a Kashmiri, Alia had to improve her Urdu and then unlearn what she had picked up. Additionally, Alia also learnt how to drive a Jonga (a kind of jeep used by the armed forces).
The trailer showcases Alia as a daughter, a wife and a spy. When asked about which character was the most difficult to portray, she quipped, “The guilt that Sehmat feels as a wife was the toughest to portray.” Interestingly, she said that she has learnt about the sheer selflessness of people and the willingness with which they would give up everything for their nation.
Raazi, presented by Junglee Pictures and Dharma Productions, and produced by Vineet Jain, Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta, releases on May 11, 2018.
