Ganesh Chaturthi: Sonali Kulkarni’s Ganpati connect revealed – Two years ago, her theme was ‘Green Ganesh’ and she placed saplings around the idol.
Sonali Kulkarni has been celebrating Ganpati festival since her childhood in Pune. When she came to Mumbai, she often missed out on the celebrations at her home as she would be travelling. That’s when she decided to bring a Ganpati idol home, but with a difference. She doesn’t immerse the murti at all. “I got this idol as a gift and I have been doing puja for the last 12 years. It’s an eco-friendly Ganpati made of mud, but I don’t want to immerse it as that’s a way of being eco-conscious,” says Sonali.
She also has a unique way of decorating it. Two years ago, her theme was ‘Green Ganesh’ and she placed saplings around the idol. Last time, she created a house of knowledge. “My husband, my daughter and me -— all are bookworms. And, Ganpati is the Lord of knowledge, so we decided to decorate it with books,” says Sonali. This year, she is planning to create something with seeds. “I am part of Aamir Khan’s Paani foundation and I was gifted a variety of seeds. Even my mother, who has a green thumb has given me a lot of seeds. We sowed them and now they have started sprouting. I am planning to use that for the decoration, the process is on,” she shares.
The actress feels that Ganeshotsav is the best time to connect with friends and family. “We are getting lost in the world of social media. We think we are in touch with the world, but that is just virtual. We need to talk to each other and connect. Ganesh festival is the best chance to meet and greet everyone and establish a connect,” she signs off.
