Madhuri Dixit replaces Sridevi in Abhishek Varman’s film, confirms Janhvi Kapoor – Not only Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor is making her debut with Karan Johar’s production ‘Dhadak’, the late actress was also meant to feature in Dharma Productions’ film directed by Abhishek Varman. Sridevi was supposed to reunite with her ‘Gumraah’ co-star Sanjay Dutt for a star-studded film which also features Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur in the lead.
But it wasn’t meant to be.
On Monday afternoon, Sridevi’s daughter took to Instagram to announce that Madhuri Dixit has stepped into Sridevi’s role. Janhvi shared a picture of the two actresses from the sets of a dance reality show and wrote, “Abhishek Varman’s next film was very close to mom’s heart …Dad, Khushi and I are thankful to Madhuriji for now being a part of this beautiful film…”
Back in the 80s and 90s, the two actress were pitted against each other. When Madhuri Dixit rose to stardom with 1989 film Tezaab, Sridevi was at the peak of her career working with almost every leading hero back then. Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit were constantly being compared . Film magazines had a gala time pitting the dancing divas and brilliant performers up against each other but the two ladies never spoke about it in public. After Sridevi’s demise, Madhuri was also among the first celebrity to visit the family in tough times, putting an end to all such rumours.
Earlier, filmmaker Hansal Mehta also revealed that he was keen to approach Sridevi for a separate project he had in mind, but before he could do that, the actress left for heavenly abode. As per an IANS report, Mehta had said, “I will always regret that I didn’t approach her and could not make a movie with her. But I will make a film on her.” Now the filmmaker wants to make a film on Sridevi’s life and cast Vidya Balan in the lead.
