She had a breakthrough in Malayalam cinema when she was just pursuing her 11th Standard. She made her debut in Nammal with newcomers Siddharth, Renuka Menon and Jishnu in 2002. The movie was a huge hit and she appeared in a number of Malayalam movies sharing her screen space with almost all the actors in Mollywood. Bhavana became one of the leading actresses in the field through her roles in Chronic Bachelor, C.I.D. Moosa and Swapnakoodu. However, some of her movies like Youth Festival, Parayam and Bunglavil Outha bombed at the box office,She appeared in an item number in the movie Runway. In 2006, she played as heroine in the movies Chess and Chinthamani Kolacase which did well in the theatres. Her Chotta Mumbai opposite Mohanlal was an average hit. Her first Tamil movie was Koodal Nagar with Bharath but the one that hit the theaters first was Chithiram Pesudhadi alongside Naren; it was a blockbuster in 2006. Her performance in the movie was highly acclaimed and she acted in a number of Tamil movies including Deepavali, Veyil, Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai, Arya, Rameswaram, Vaazthugal, Jayamkondan and Asal. Some of the movies did well while the others were a flop.
