Sridevi’s death caused by accidental drowning, traces of alcohol found – Bollywood’s iconic diva Sridevi, 54, breathed her last in Dubai on Saturday night. The news of her demise came as a shock to her fans, within and outside Bollywood. While initial reports suggested that megastar Sridevi died due to cardiac arrest, soon it was reported that the Chandni fame actor died due to a heart attack in her hotel room on February 24.

This morning, a report in Khaleej Times said that Boney Kapoor, who flew back to India along with his younger daughter Khushi, reached Sridevi’s hotel room in Dubai on Saturday evening, around 5.30pm, to surprise her. The reports further suggested that Boney found her motionless in a bathtub after he didn’t get any response from her upto 15 minutes after she went in. Sridevi was later rushed to the Rashid Hospital in Dubai, where she was declared brought dead.

Now contrary to several reports doing the rounds, Dubai police has revealed that as per the forensic reports, Sridevi died from accidental drowning and traces of alcohol have been found in her body. Reportedly, Under the influence of alcohol, Sridevi lost her balance, fell into the bathtub and drowned. The case has been transferred to Dubai Public Prosecution, which will carry out regular legal procedures followed in such cases.

The Padma Shri winner was in Dubai to attend the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah. Her beautiful pictures from the wedding showed the actor enjoying the celebrations.

Khushi Kapoor to follow sister's footsteps

It was her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor, who confirmed the news. Sridevi’s sudden demise sent shockwaves across India. Fans have been thronging her Andheri residence in Mumbai to pay rich tributes to their beloved actor.

Ever since the news broke out, Sridevi’s Lokhandwala home – where she used to live with her husband Boney Kapoor and two daughters Janhvi and Khushi – witnessed a steady stream of ardent fans assembling outside her house to pay their respects.

The actor, who started off her career down South as a child artiste, became a prominent Bollywood star in the early ’80s with box-office hits such as “Mawaali” (1983), “Tohfa” (1984), “Mr India” (1987) and “Chandni” (1989) among others to her credit.

Her outings in “Sadma” (1983), “ChaalBaaz” (1989), “Lamhe” (1991), and “Gumrah” (1993) earned her critical acclaim, establishing her as one of the most sought after actors of her era.

Sridevi went on a hiatus for 15 years after starring in home production — “Judaai” — co-starring with her brother-in-law actor Anil Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar.

It was director Gauri Shinde’s “English Vinglish” in 2012 that marked her comeback to the silver screen.

Sridevi was last seen in revenge-drama — “Mom” — alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna. She shot for a special appearance in superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film — “Zero” — which releases in December.
