Watch: Pehredaar Piya Ki ‘sequel’ Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya debuts first trailer, minus underage romance – Sony TV has released the first trailer for its ‘sequel’ to the controversial show Pehredaar Piya Ki, called Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya on Thursday.

Sony TV has released the first trailer for its ‘sequel’ to the controversial show Pehredaar Piya Ki, called Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya on Thursday.

The show will feature the same cast as that of Pehredaar whose characters will have the same names, but with one key difference: The romance plot which involved an 8-year-old has been done away with. Despite this, the makers insist that it isn’t a continuation of the Pehredaar Piya Ki, according to Bollywood Life.

The show was embroiled in controversy after several viewers complained that it promoted child marriage, and for its treatment of certain romantic scenes. A petition on social media requested Information & Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani to take the show off air.

The new show, however, looks like a straightforward romance between two adults. Tejasswi Prakash returns in the central role, and is joined by Rohit Suchanti as Ratan. It will also feature Jiten Lalwani, Girish Sachdev, Siddharth Shivpuri, Aditi Deshpande, Harmeet Kaur, Meenu Ranchal, Achherr Bhaardwaaj, Kasturi Maitra, Manisha Saxena and Varunn Jain.

The show will begin airing from 7 November at 9 pm on Sony TV.
